Hi. I'm Lynise Green. Founder of WWL and self-professed high-achiever. For more than 40 years I've "put in the hours" to rise through the ranks of corporate America - always striving for excellence in my work and home life. After the birth of my daughter, like so many other women, I promptly put on my superpowers cape and set out to excel at all the opportunities I faced - new mom, Senior Manager, entrepreneur, wife, daughter, sister, friend, community advocate.
Instead of soaring to new heights, I found myself achieving a new low - completely burnt out and out of work on short term disability for 6-months! Not where I thought I would end up! And when I arrived, I certainly didn't expect to see so many of my friends and colleagues there - so many women who appeared to "have it all together" were secretly and silently falling apart!
After I recovered and got back to work, I made the transition from Technical Program Management to Corporate Wellness Program Management. It was then that I realized two very important things (from the other side of the coin). First - the demands and expectations put on women in the workforce are drastically different than those put on men. Second, and perhaps more importantly, try as they might, many organizations do not have the infrastructure (or the understanding) to truly support the women in their workforce as they struggle to balance and manage these demands. And these two issues create the perfect storm for me, and SO many of my female colleagues, to find ourselves stressed out, burnt out and overwhelmed.
The problem, simply put, is this: the training and preparation for new (and seasoned) managers and leaders teaches you how to do more (time management) ... but it doesn't teach how to have the capacity (energy) to do it and do it well.
